      • 3-Day/2-Night camp for participants with autism ages 6+ yrs to enjoy an unforgettable outdoor experience! Activities at camp include ocean swimming, rock climbing, campfires, and more!
      • This year’s camp will take place at Keats Island from Tuesday, August 27, to Thursday, August 29. Online registration will be open from Monday, May 13, at noon, to Friday, May 17, at noon.
      • All participants will be notified of their updated registration status by end of day on Friday, May 24.
      • Important Reminder: Overnight Camp is a very popular program and we anticipate we will not be able to accommodate all those who wish to attend. Please keep in mind that enrolment is not guaranteed.

    The camps focus on social integration, physical development and communication skills. Children and their aides follow a structured and tailored schedule, whether it be an integration with a larger group of children, or a 1:1 session with our Movement Therapists. Activities include Movement Therapy, Aqua Therapy (at Chimo Pool), gymnastics, games, arts and crafts, free play time, quiet time, classroom activities, bike riding, and hiking. The most popular of the activities is bike riding, which is done every day, weather depending.

    Easter Seals Urban Activities Program (Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey)

    This summer Easter Seals BC will be offering a day program in Vancouver and North Van for youth and young adults with disabilities. The program runs through July and will feature fun and skill-building activities such as a trip to the aquarium, educational OMNMAX films, a trip to the HR MacMillan Space Centre, a petting zoo experience, bowling, sports days, park days and more. Among other things, participants will get to have fun, make new friends, and develop their social skills and comfort using public transit.

    Participants can sign up for as many or as few days as they are eligible, and are able to tailor their activity schedule to their preferences and availability.     L.I.F.E. Program (Vancouver)

    In partnership with the Disability Foundation, March of Dimes Canada’s Learning Independence for Future Empowerment (L.I.F.E.) pilot program is coming to Vancouver on July 8th to 19th, 2019!

    The L.I.F.E. program helps young adults with disabilities make the transition to greater independence by providing new skills and hands-on opportunities for growth and personal development, including:
    · Goal-setting
    · Life skills workshops
    · Financial literacy
    · Health & wellness
    · Social, sport & recreational outings
    · Adaptive music

    To register for the L.I.F.E. program, each applicant must:  Have a disability and be able to direct their own care.

    COST: $5/Day | Personal care (assistance with toileting and meals) is included
    Applicants can self-refer!

    New Heights is currently offering three summer camps over various days this summer:

    • KidLympics runs Monday’s throughout the summer and will be focused on teaching children and youth 5-12 sportsmanship, how to win and lose, and healthy competition while learning about various sports.
    • Mindfull-me runs on Thursdays and will teach children able their emotions and how they effect those around them as well as how thoughts, feelings, and emotion can affect our everyday lives.
    • Escape the mystery is an escape room themed camp focused around story telling, mystery, and language arts.

    • July 2-5: Myth Busters Camp – Ages 6-12, 9:30am – 3:30pm
      • This full day camp is open to all ages of students. The students will explore a variety of “myths” and find out if they are true or false. The lessons for this camp include: flexible and stuck thinking, communication, and being part of a group.
    • July 22-26: Lego Movie Makers Camp – Ages 6-12, 9:30am – 3:30pm
      • This full day camp is open to all ages of students. The students will be “employed” to make a video together. They will create a script, build a vehicle (that they get to take home at the end of the week), create/build additional backgrounds, act it out, record it, and on the final day: the movie will be shown in the theatre! The lessons for this camp include: following the group plan, making smart guesses, and communication.
    • July 29-Aug 2: Entrepreneurship Camp – Ages 11-16, 9:30am – 3:30pm
      • This full day camp is open to students 11-16 years old! The students will create, market, and sell a product. The students will also select a community group to donate their profits to! Lessons for this camp include: verbal, written, and digital communications for preteens and teens!
    • Aug 6-9: Amazing Race – Ages 11-16, 9:30am – 3:30pm
      • Participants will create their passports and complete challenges popular in other countries. It begins by setting up ten challenges from different countries. The campers are divided into teams and “travel” from country to country, participating in different challenges. As with any travel, road blocks and detours will add some twists and turns. Participants will undergo team and individual challenges. At the end of the week, the campers will show their community-based
        endeavors on video tape. This active theme will keep students engaged and involved.
    • Aug 19-23: Community Helpers Camp, – Ages 6-10, 9:30am – 3:30pm
      • This full day camp for students 6-10 years old will explore different places in the community and community helpers. The students will learn about different community places and the work the community helpers do. The lessons for this camp include: expected and unexpected behaviours and hidden rules. Please keep in mind: this is a community based program with daily field trips!
    • Aug 26-30: Art Camp – Ages 6-10, 9:30am – 3:30pm
      • This full day camp is open to all ages of students. The students will learn about creating and observing a variety of art forms. The lessons for this camp include: social skills, problem solving, and communication. Please note: there will be two field trips within this week of camp!
