FEAT Rally Friday, November 13th, 2009 12:00 Noon Premier Gordon Campbell’s Constituency Office 3615 West 4th Ave Vancouver, BC Why should you attend?
- The recent tragic deaths of two Canadian children with autism, killed at the hands of their own parents, is a wake up call! The status quo is putting the health of children and their very lives in jeopardy.
- September’s announcement by the Ministry of Children and Family Development has shown that our government is not concerned about the rights and needs of some of its most vulnerable citizens.
- No legislation or mandate exists to deliver health care to children with autism or to protect and enshrine their right to their medically necessary treatment. What little individualized funding being provided now is in jeopardy of being taken away.
- Autism is an epidemic! According to the Center for Disease Control, it now affects one in every 100 children in North America.
It is time for our provincial government to recognize its responsibility to act and to demonstrate leadership for the rest of Canada! Who should attend? Parents, grandparents, friends, consultants, therapists… anyone who is concerned about this injustice to our children: We urge you all to attend this rally! IMPORTANT SURVEY Dear Parents, Below is a link to a survey on ABA in BC Schools. Please complete this survey if you have a child in the school system who is involved in a home-based ABA program. If you have two or more children involved in ABA, you may fill out the survey for each child who is in school. Please do the survey only once per child, so that our results are accurate. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/P37RTQM The survey will allow us to see which districts have responded to the Hewko decision in 2004 (see the SCHOOL section in <http://www.abasupportnetwork.com> for more information). For this reason, we would like to use the survey results to determine what work still needs to be done to ensure that our children have access to quality ABA in school. This is your opportunity to send a message to your school district. It is possible that some districts are doing really well and others are not. If you have any questions, please e-mail them to dione@abasupportnetwork.com The survey will only take a few minutes of your time, but might give you the tools to help your child, or help other children in BC. Dear friends, I have a major problem with the principal of my son's school. Since I separated from my wife and left the family house, the school is not providing anymore any kind of info about my son. I am not invited anymore at meetings, I was not part of his IEP, I have no idea what is he doing all day long, etc. Last school year I was "the parent model" and even elected in PAC. Now ...... in the principal's eyes, I am like the worst parent in the world. My last resort is to try litigation and asked for my rights. Please, it will be highly appreciated, if somebody will be kind to refere me to a lawyer experienced in educational law. Kind thanks, Dragos |
