Singing for Special Needs Fostering compassion and nurturing The art of Singing in general helps individuals to express themselves appropriately and can be self-therapeutic. Singing a meaningful song requires socially appropriate emotions and can only be achieved through intonation, stress, accent, cadence, loudness, pitch, timbre, tempo, and rhythm – what constitutes information beyond that transmitted by word choice and word order alone. Singing for Special Needs is an artful combination of musical speech, singing, and cognitive instruction that is deeply rooted in both centuries old knowledge and wisdom and reasoned cutting-edge scientific research. Singing for Special Needs: • Improves language and other communication skills • Develops the articulatory faculties and expressiveness of speech • Sharpens the auditory faculties and deepens comprehension • Enhances memory and adds to over-all academic achievement • Facilitates development of sympathy and empathy towards others • Evokes and reinforces socially and emotionally appropriate behaviour • Helps to develop imagination and planning skills • Raises self-esteem and increases general sense of well-being • Helps to generalize required information and behaviour into real time-events • Is client-centered, creative, enjoyable, and applies across cultures Highly Beneficial for: Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD, apathy, stress-related disorders, stuttering, language learning and production difficulties, and deficiencies in social-emotional practices. Michael G. Levykh, PhD (Educational Psychology) is the creator and a practicing therapist of Affective Speech Remediation for individuals with Language Learning and Production Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Deficiencies in Social-Emotional Practices. His therapy focuses on Cognitive-Affective Speech, Prosody, and Mood-Induced Speech as Enhancing Factors of Memory in Learning. Teaching and facilitation of therapeutic learning, as it is influenced by affective forces, have been his lifelong passions. His present expertise also stems from a successful career as a voice teacher, vocal coach, teacher of vocal pedagogy, dialect coach, and presenter of workshops on Preservation and Rejuvenation of the Professional Voice.
