We are a parent founded society that has been working to provide information and support to people on the autism spectrum and their families since 1975. AutismBC’s programs equip families and communities with essential autism knowledge and offer people on the autism spectrum an opportunity to participate in community activities. AutismBC is a founding member of the Provincial and Territorial Council of Autism Canada (formerly Autism Society Canada and Autism Canada Foundation).
We are a non-profit, registered charity and acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia. In addition to our Richmond head office, we have branch offices in Northern BC, the Interior and Vancouver Island.
“An inclusive society where people on the autism spectrum are living their best life”
“We empower, support, and connect the autism community in BC”
Autism BC Provides Support in 3 Key Programming Areas:
- Information and Awareness
- Support and Connection
- Training and Workshops
In 1975, with the dedication and hard work of several passionate parents whose children had been diagnosed with autism, The Pacific Association for Autistic Children was created. At this time, knowledge of the disorder was limited, so our predecessor stepped in to fill the void, working to educate and support the families of BC. During these days, we operated out of the now-shuttered Jericho Hill School on the Westside of Vancouver.
Since the early years, our society has had five names, three addresses, and our fair share of triumphs and struggles. Today, inspired by the vision our society had all those years ago, AutismBC continues to support and empower people on the autism spectrum and their families, by providing them with educational resources and community programming.
