Shyla was raised away from her Indigenous community in an urban area and is grateful to have settled in Prince George on the traditional unceded territory of the Lheidli T’enneh. \nShyla learned to bead three years ago as a way of reconnecting and rediscovering her Indigenous culture and history. Shyla is a self-taught beadwork artist but has learned many techniques along the way from other talented Indigenous artists. \nShyla balances the use of contemporary and traditional beadwork designs and techniques along with the use of traditional materials in her work. Shyla is constantly inspired by ancestor pieces\, historical beadwork pieces that are often found in museums\, art galleries\, and personal collections. These designs heavily influence Shyla’s work through materials\, colour\, and pattern choices. Shyla strives to keep our traditions alive through her beadwork that can be shared with future generations. \nShyla’s work has been displayed at the Amelia Douglas Institute and Omineca Arts Centre along with various online group exhibitions. Shyla facilitates beading workshops with Indigenous non-profits to share cultural knowledge and traditions while engaging youth. \nAn example of Shyla’s beading work.\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nAbout AutismBC Goes: \nAt AutismBC Goes events\, we aim to foster a sense of community and belonging\, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation. By organizing engaging outings and activities\, we offer opportunities for autistic individuals and their families to connect\, have fun\, and learn in a supportive environment.  \nAbout Creative Flow Craft Studio: \n \nKatie Krebs\, Owner/Operator \nA Bit About Me \nSome of my fondest childhood memories include spending my summers at Toronto’s Harbourfront taking art classes at the art gallery\, watching blown glass artists in Granville Island\, and spending hours making jewelry at day camp and refusing to play outside with the other kids. As an adult\, I still sometimes forget to go play outside when I am working on a new painting or pottery project\, but luckily my two sons can be pretty persuasive! I believe that when we provide the tools and environment for children to explore their creativity\, it has the ability so shape them for life\, which is exactly what the mission is at Creative Flow Craft Studio. \nAs the owner of a licensed daycare program here in Kelowna from 2010-2017\, I am proud to have had the opportunity to touch the lives of so many children in our community throughout the years\, and am excited to continue to do so through the arts. \nOur Values – Providing a safe\, creative environment that values the process over the product \nCreative Flow Craft Studio was born out of a desire to allow children to explore many different aspects of fine arts\, with diverse materials and opportunities. We believe that providing a creative and flexible environment and a variety of tools\, allows children to open their minds to endless possibility. We value the concept of honouring the process rather than the product\, which invites children to develop a positive\, exploratory relationship with the arts\, and fosters positive self esteem. Without external pressure or influence\, children allow their own creative style to emerge and develop\, which is the foundation in which a true artist can blossom. \nhttps://www.creativeflow.studio/

Since that time\, she’s grown as an artist\, taking in a multitude of workshops\, branching out in exhibiting her work and dabbling in teaching others.\n \nIn early 2016\, Coral started WetPaint Prince Rupert\, bringing the social painting scene to Prince Rupert. Her vision is to bring back some of that childhood joy of being creative\, doing something purely for fun and being at play with other people. While the COVID-19 pandemic put a brief halt to the fun\, Wet Paint is now back from the brink\, offering a unique opportunity to express your inner artist.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nAbout AutismBC Goes:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt AutismBC Goes events\, we aim to foster a sense of community and belonging\, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation. SUMMARY:AutismBC Goes to Paint Date (New Westminster)
DESCRIPTION:Disclaimer: This event has been updated in accordance with the AutismBC 2025 Communication Guide. Any mentions of “respite” have been changed to “caregiver wellbeing support” as part of our commitment to nurturing safe and inclusive spaces through language. Support for caregivers to take time for themselves— to rest\, restore balance\, and care for their own well-being. It offers space to reconnect with what nourishes them—whether that’s family\, community\, culture\, or personal healing—so they can continue to care for others in a good way. We use this term instead of “respite\,” which can carry a negative implication about disability and disabled people. \nWe are hosting an AutismBC Goes to Paint Date in New Westminster on Family Day weekend with our Lower Mainland Regional Coordinator\, Anne Honeycutt. ️  \nThis event is all about giving parents of autistic children some well-deserved “me time” to relax and hang out with other adults without stressing about finding a sitter. \nWe will run an adult-only art session with Mira Robin Art Therapy\, and to entertain the kids\, we will hold different activities\, such as Free Play and Active Movement/Sensory Friendly Crafts for Kids\, with the on-site child-minding volunteers. \n  \nHow: Registration is required; see below. See you there! \n  \nAbout the Instructor: \nMira Robin Art Therapy \n I have been working as an occupational therapist since 2004\, and practicing within the field of mental health since 2013. I have worked with people in various settings and backgrounds\, with a particular focus in the last few years on workplace-related stress and emotional injuries. My intention is to support clients to fully engage in activities that are personally meaningful during times of struggle\, while tolerating and even learning from the whole range of emotions that goes with that.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArt-making and journaling were transformative for me during a particularly challenging time during my career: I was on the brink of burnout\, juggling an extremely high caseload\, complex client situations and systemic challenges all at the same time.  Making art brought me into a dialogue with myself that helped me re-find what was important to me\, in my life generally\, and particularly as a healthcare worker.  This fostered my desire to focus my therapy practice on introducing others to this powerful modality\, and in 2019 I pursued a post-graduate diploma program in Art Therapy at the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. \nI continue to work as an occupational therapist\, which complements my art therapy practice. When working with clients\, I focus on helping you more deeply understand your unique situation and needs\, guided by a belief that we all have the potential for self-discovery and healing. By organizing engaging outings and activities\, we offer opportunities for autistic individuals and their families to connect\, have fun\, and learn in a supportive environment.  \n\nOur programs are designed to support\, empower\, and connect the autism community! \nNot yet an AutismBC Member? Sign-up for a Membership: Our Membership — AutismBC \n
