SUMMARY:AutismBC Workshop: What is Autism?
DESCRIPTION:What is Autism?\nWould you like to learn how to support someone on the autism spectrum better? Would you like to make your business or place of work more inclusive by becoming more sensory-friendly? Our What is Autism Workshop focuses on providing guidance and training around community inclusion. Over an hour\, participants learn how community members on the autism spectrum may experience the world to increase autism awareness and acceptance. \nWe offer this workshop to build supportive\, inclusive communities for all autistic people. We want to see the world where community accommodations are commonplace\, and community spaces are designed to support all neurotypes. \nGuided by insights from autism service providers\, parents of autistic children\, and autistic self-advocates\, our training tackles essential questions\, such as: \n\nWhat is Autism?\nHow many people in BC are on the Autism spectrum?\nWhat does AutismBC do?\nHow and why can my workplace offer simple accommodations to be more inclusive?\nWe will discuss all of these questions and more!\n\nJoin us for a 30-minute introduction session and 30 minutes of questions. Extend the invitation to your co-workers\, family\, and friends — all are welcome! \nAdditionally\, Throughout our session\, you will: \n\nExpand your awareness about autism and the ways autistic people might experience the world.\nGain insight into how you may offer accommodations or alter environments to provide support.\n\nIndividuals come together for regular sessions\, engaging in various ways. They can participate by listening attentively\, asking questions\, or sharing a unique accommodation they have developed and believe others should adopt. Through collective efforts\, we strive to enhance social inclusion within the autistic community throughout British Columbia. \nEvent Details: \n\nDate: Thursday\, April 18\, 2024\nTime: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm PST (30 mins Info Session + 30 mins Q&A)\nLocation: Live and online via Zoom\nHow: The Zoom link will be provided in the event registration confirmation and a reminder email.\n\nWe hope to see you there! \nRegistration Closed. \nAutismBC ensures that all expenses associated with hosting these sessions are covered\, making them accessible to everyone without charge. Please note that this workshop is available every other month\, and registration closes the day before the workshop; please check back for future dates.

SUMMARY:AutismBC Talks: What is Mutual Aid?
DESCRIPTION:Is a Mutual Aid Network for Neurodivergent Living Support something that you would like to know more about?  \nA Mutual Aid support network is a grassroots initiative where individuals come together to provide assistance and resources to one another based on the principle of solidarity and cooperation. Unlike traditional charity models\, Mutual Aid focuses on reciprocity and collective action rather than hierarchical structures or top-down assistance. \nParticipants in a Mutual Aid network may offer various forms of emotional support or skills-sharing\, depending on the needs of the community. This support is typically provided voluntarily and without any expectation of monetary compensation and fosters volunteerism\, building a community of care network. \nMutual Aid networks often emerge during times of crisis or when existing social systems fail to address the needs of marginalized or vulnerable populations adequately. These networks are based on the belief that communities possess the collective power and resources to care for each other and address systemic issues together. \nKey principles of Mutual Aid include autonomy\, solidarity\, inclusivity\, and horizontal organization. Mutual Aid networks provide immediate relief by fostering cooperation and mutual support\, building communities’ resilience\, and challenging existing power structures. In essence\, Mutual Aid is about neighbours coming together to support each other in times of need\, creating stronger\, more connected communities in the process. \nJoin Anne and Carla\, who will discuss the upcoming program plan for our new session. We will also work on some of our community questions that were submitted seeking peer advice.  \nRegister for this Information Presentation to learn about mutual aid.  \nDate: Monday\, March 11\, 2024 \nTime: 10:00 am – 11:00am \nWhere: on Zoom \nWho: Anyone who wants to learn more about this topic \n  \nAbout NDLN Meets:  \nThis new Autism Meets “Neurodivergent Living Network” aims to build a community of support for the daily activities of all neurodiverse and neurodivergent families. See you there! \n  \nAbout the Instructor: \nCoral Cargill\, Wet Paint Prince Rupert \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCoral began painting under the tutelage of Mary Ann Saunders in 1991 but never built up the courage to explore her art publicly until she joined Prince Rupert’s local art guild in 2005. Since that time\, she’s grown as an artist\, taking in a multitude of workshops\, branching out in exhibiting her work and dabbling in teaching others.\n \nIn early 2016\, Coral started WetPaint Prince Rupert\, bringing the social painting scene to Prince Rupert. Her vision is to bring back some of that childhood joy of being creative\, doing something purely for fun and being at play with other people. While the COVID-19 pandemic put a brief halt to the fun\, Wet Paint is now back from the brink\, offering a unique opportunity to express your inner artist.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nAbout AutismBC Goes:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt AutismBC Goes events\, we aim to foster a sense of community and belonging\, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation. By organizing engaging outings and activities\, we offer opportunities for autistic individuals and their families to connect\, have fun\, and learn in a supportive environment.  \n\nOur programs are designed to support\, empower\, and connect the autism community! \nNot yet an AutismBC Member? Sign-up for a Membership: Our Membership — AutismBC \n
