SUMMARY:AutismBC Goes to Silly Science: Exploring Sound
DESCRIPTION:Disclaimer*: This event has been updated in accordance with the AutismBC 2025 Communication Guide. Any mentions of “respite” have been changed to “caregiver wellbeing support” as part of our commitment to nurturing safe and inclusive spaces through language. Support for caregivers to take time for themselves— to rest\, restore balance\, and care for their own well-being. It offers space to reconnect with what nourishes them—whether that’s family\, community\, culture\, or personal healing—so they can continue to care for others in a good way. We use this term instead of “respite\,” which can carry a negative implication about disability and disabled people. \nLet’s join together for a music and science class lead by Recreational Respite*.  \nThis Silly Science program will explore sound as you will learn about sound waves\, their properties\, and different frequencies and pitches. You will participate in a variety of sound activities that will explore the different types of sound. The aim of this program is to listen to sounds and discover sounds you like or dislike. \n  \nSign up HERE \nRegistration is required for this event and space is limited.  \n  \nWe will join a private zoom room for the class. A link will be sent closer to the date. We will keep the Zoom Room open after the class for those looking to connect with others.  \nAutismBC puts on these community events and covers the costs so they are free for all members to participate.

This year\, we want to highlight the diversity within the autism community and encourage you to be yourself. Dare to be different and stand out from the crowd—there is no wrong way to be yourself. \n\nWe’ll be having a quick introduction interview between Jake Anthony and Erica Mac before a mini-concert by Piano Punk. You can expect an array of unconventional piano-based covers performed by Vancouver’s own\, Piano Punk!\nWe can’t wait to see you there.\n \nThis concert is designed to connect autistic adults but we welcome everyone to join us in celebrating Autistic Pride Day!\n \nThe event will be premiered and broadcasted on AutismBC’s Facebook and YouTube.\nFind out more about Erica Mac: https://ericamac.com/\n#Autisticprideday
