SUMMARY:Cantonese Parent Meeting: Autism—Now what do I do?
Stella shui@autismbc.ca \nDisclaimer: This event has been updated in accordance with the AutismBC 2025 Communication Guide. Any mentions of “respite” have been changed to “caregiver wellbeing support” as part of our commitment to nurturing safe and inclusive spaces through language. Support for caregivers to take time for themselves— to rest\, restore balance\, and care for their own well-being. It offers space to reconnect with what nourishes them—whether that’s family\, community\, culture\, or personal healing—so they can continue to care for others in a good way. We use this term instead of “respite\,” which can carry a negative implication about disability and disabled people. \nAutism: Now what do I do? \nAs parents of children on the autism spectrum\, we feel overwhelmed and we may have many questions that we don’t know where to find the answers to. \nEducation\, transitioning\, making friends\, self-regulation\, social communication\, therapies or interventions\, behaviour management\, sensory issues\, mental health\, caregiver wellbeing support\, future planning\, adult services\, employment… the list goes on and on… \nLet’s get together to ask questions—in our Autism 101 session with Stella Hui. \nTopic: Autism: Now what do I do? \nLanguage: Cantonese\nTime: Mar 11\, 2021 10:30 AM Pacific Time \nRegistration: http://bit.ly/Cantonese-autism-101-workshop \nIf parents have questions about this workshop\, they can ask Mable at mlaw@ccmcanada.org\, or Stella at shui@autismbc.ca \n  \nStella Hui \nStella has been the Information Officer with AutismBC since 2006.  Other than her experience from work\, being the parent of a son on the autism spectrum and an occupational therapist definitely widened her perspectives on autism. Over the years\, Stella has met numerous parents and families\, self-advocates\, professionals\, and others in the autism communities. She connects with the autism community through phone and email enquiries\, the monthly workshops she organizes with speakers presenting on hot topics related to autism\, the community support groups she facilitates\, and the coffee meetups she coordinates for parents and families.
