SUMMARY:AutismBC Goes to the Malahat Skywalk (Malahat)
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a cool family outing this summer join us at the Malahat Skywalk.  \nJoin us July 21 at 10am to explore the Malahat Skywalk. AutismBC will cover the cost of admission. Malahat SkyWalk is an accessible 600 m TreeWalk through a beautiful arbutus forest leading to a spectacular gentle spiral ramp that takes you up 32m to a sightseeing lookout offering views of Finlayson Arm\, Saanich Peninsula\, Mount Baker and the distant Coast Mountains.  \nDid you know: The name “Malahat” comes from the SENĆOŦEN word “MÁLEXEȽ” and Hul’q’umi’num’ word “Ma’le-‘h’xe’l’”\, both of which are derived from the words for caterpillars\, a reference to a historic infestation in the area.  \n \nHow much time should I allow for the Malahat SkyWalk experience?  \nThat depends on how long you choose to linger and enjoy the viewpoint\, picnic area\, café\, and shops. We recommend planning 90 minutes for the entire experience.   \nHow long is the entire walkway?  \nFrom the first steps through the breezeway of the Welcome Center\, to the top of the tower\, and back to the cafe and retail shop\, the entire Malahat SkyWalk experience will take you about 2.2 km or 1.4 mi through treetop canopies and lush forests.  \nWhat should I wear?  \nWe strongly encourage people to dress comfortably and dress for the weather. Comfortable shoes are important as both the walkway and tower are a wooden boardwalk. We recommend closed toe flat shoes.  \nHow do I get to the Malahat SkyWalk?  \nYou will find driving directions here.  \nCan I bring my pets?  \nThis is not a pet friendly experience and we do not allow any animals other than Certified Guide and Service Dogs.  \nDo I need proof of Vaccination to visit?  \nAt this time\, guests are not required to show proof of vaccination to visit the Malahat SkyWalk. This applies to all facilities within the park\, including our Cafe and Gift Shop. For current and up to date information\, please check here prior to visiting  \nWhat is there to do at the Malahat SkyWalk?  \nExplore the 600m elevated TreeWalk with interpretive features throughout; ascend the 32 m tall Spiral Tower; enjoy the views from the 360° lookout; return via the Nature Trail at ground level through the forest; have lunch or a snack in our café; find the perfect gift in our shop.  \nIs there an elevator?  \nNo elevator\, however\, the entire experience was built with accessibility in mind. The Elevated Walkway and Spiral Tower were built within a 5-8% incline in some sections\, making it wheelchair\, walker\, and stroller friendly.  \nLet us know who is planning to come. Space is limited and registration ahead of time is required.  \nREGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT OPENS ON Monday June 20\, 2022 AT 1 pm.  \nThis will be a very popular event and requires registration.  Registration will close once spots are taken \n\nRegister HERE \nIf you have an Access 2 Card one parent or support worker receives free admission.  \n  \nAutismBC puts on events and covers the costs so that members from the autism community can join and take place in community activities and connect with others from the autism community.  \nAbout the Malahat Skywalk:  \nLongview: Malahat Skywalk\, Vancouver Island\, BC
