Our Inclusivity Statement

June 11th, 2020

AutismBC

We are proud to be a part of a diverse community. This is our inclusivity statement and our promise to our members.

At AutismBC, each of us contributes to inclusion—we all have a part to play. Before we act, we focus on our hearts and minds as we believe inclusion starts with self-work. Engaging in self-work means lowering our defenses and looking at our biases so that we can act with compassion and courage.

We believe inclusion grows through courageous conversations, sometimes with ourselves and sometimes with others. When we know better, we do better, and we believe that action matters. Our culture is the result of our behaviours, our curiosity, our failures, and our commitment.

We are committed to listening, even when it is uncomfortable to do so.

We are committed to amplifying a spectrum of voices and life experiences.

We are committed to creating a space that is safe for everyone.

We are committed to acknowledging that stigma does harm.

We are committed to responding with more love than we did the day before.

As part of our pledge, we have partnered with the Stigma Free Society. We have developed an action plan that outlines our commitments to build an inclusive society where everyone can thrive.

We welcome your feedback and encourage you to contact us here to share your thoughts, feelings, and stories. We’d love to hear what inclusion means to you and what you think of our inclusivity statement.
