AutismBC Goes — GTOTS Watercolour Painting Workshop: Create a Summer Postcard

Join us for a delightful watercolour painting workshop where you can learn the basics of this beautiful art form while having fun! In this session, we will focus on creating a lovely summer postcard that you can send to a friend or family member. Whether you are an experienced artist or have never picked up a paintbrush before, this workshop is perfect for you!

During the workshop, we will explore various aspects of watercolour painting, including colour temperatures, brush and water techniques, composition basics, and using basic shapes to abstract familiar forms like plants and trees. No previous experience is necessary, as we will guide you through every step of the process.

Where: Online. A Zoom link will be sent with your event registration confirmation.

Who Can Attend:

This workshop is specifically designed for autistic adults or individuals who identify as being on the autism spectrum. All skill levels are welcome. 

Cost:

The workshop is free of charge.

What You Will Receive:

  • Watercolour paint and brush (palette likely attached)
  • Watercolour postcards
  • Stamp

What You Will Need:

  • Container or jar of water
  • Cloth/paper towel/rag
  • Masking tape
  • Address of your friend/loved ones

Workshop Agenda:

  • Project Introduction
  • Info slides* and live demonstration (includes examples of finished outcomes and visuals explaining the fundamentals like the colour wheel)
  • Interactive project session where we paint together

*Slides will be posted in the chat after the demonstration as JPEGs for reference during and after the workshop. They will also be emailed to participants afterwards.

After the Workshop:

  • Write your postcard, add the address, and attach the stamp
  • Put it in the mailbox!

How to Register:

Please make sure to register at least two weeks ahead of the workshop date to ensure you receive an art supply pack in the mail. Late registrations are still welcome to attend the workshop but will not receive an art supply pack.

Only 25 spots are available for this workshop.

NOTE: This event is now closed for receiving supply packs. Any registrants after July 16th should be able to bring their own supplies. Additionally, a reminder email several days beforehand will contain what supplies will be needed during the workshop.

About the Workshop Facilitator:

 

Liv Robinson, an Artist and Events and Outreach Coordinator, is leading this AutismBC adults workshop. Liv is responsible for coordinating various events and outreach activities. In addition to their role, they also lead adult programming initiatives such as “Getting Together on the Spectrum – GTOTS” and “Goes” in the Greater Vancouver area. Liv has a lifelong passion for art and collecting rocks and shells. Through their artwork, they express thoughts and emotions that are difficult to put into words. Liv pursued a degree in fine art, specializing in painting, and during their studies, their dedication to social justice grew stronger. After completing their degree, they moved from the Republic of Ireland to Canada. Liv also enjoys working as an Art & Design Studio Assistant at Arts Umbrella.

 

 

 

About Getting Together on the Spectrum (GTOTS):

GTOTS support group is a place for adults on the spectrum to share their personal journeys with autism, as well as the challenges they face, in a safe and supportive environment. Everybody’s lived experiences and personal stories are important.
