AutismBC Goes: Watch “They Are Sacred” at DOXA

Join Us for a Film That Celebrates Autism and Indigenous Knowledge
AutismBC is heading to the DOXA Documentary Film Festival for a world premiere screening of They Are Sacred, a powerful film by director Kim O’Bomsawin.
They Are Sacred offers a unique and deeply meaningful perspective on autism through an Indigenous lens. The film follows young Anders (Sacred Buffalo Child) and his father, Dr. Grant Bruno (Yellow Horse), of the Samson Cree Nation. Dr. Bruno, a pediatric researcher and professor, challenges deficit-based views of autism and uplifts Cree traditions that honour neurodiversity as a sacred gift.
As Anders participates in ceremony, receives his Cree name, and learns to hunt, They Are Sacred illustrates how cultural knowledge and spiritual connection can support growth, identity, and belonging. It also brings attention to the systemic barriers Indigenous families face when accessing autism support that aligns with their values.
Join us to watch this powerful story of reclamation, connection, and neuro-affirming care.
