Community Event: Connecting Queer Communities (CQC) Social Mixer (New Westminster)

March 31 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Real Talk’s brand new social group, Connecting Queer Communities (CQC), is hosting it’s first-ever social mixer on Friday, March 31st from 6 – 8pm. It will take place at 336 Columbia Street in New Westminster, just across the road from the Columbia Expo Skytrain Station.

CQC is a social group for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks with cognitive disabilities to connect with each other, and with the broader queer community of the Lower Mainland.

About the Mixer

It’s a completely free event, we’ll have snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, and folks are welcome to drop by anytime they want. We’ll have non-identifying posters up saying ‘CQC’ along the windows and doors so folks can find us. We’ll have stim toys available, dimmer lighting for folks with light sensitivities, and earplugs for folks with audio sensitivities. ASL interpretation will be provided. Attending this mixer does not mean folks must join the group!

We hope folks will come by and share what they’d like from a group like CQC: what events would they like to attend this year? What could CQC offer that would be of interest to them? We can cover some or or all of the transport and ticket costs for any events the the group plans.

We’re hoping the mixer is a chance for folks to meet us, ask any questions they might have, and share what they would envision for the group; this event, like all of our events this year, will also be an opportunity to connect with other 2SLGBTQIA+ folks with cognitive disabilities from across the city. If folks need support getting to or from the event, they are welcome to email Kelsey Savage (she/they), Certified Sexual Health Educator.
