Lights, Camera, Autism Workshop

Ever wondered what it would be like to be an Interview Host or a Weather Reporter? Do you want to learn from experienced broadcasters? Are you an Autistic Highschool aged Teenager?
Well here’s your chance!
This summer, AutismBc with financial support from the Telus Friendly Foundation is excited to Present ‘Lights Camera Autism’, a broadcast workshop created especially for teens on the spectrum to practice their social skills in a fun and supportive environment. Many skills in broadcasting are transferable and applicable to communicating in everyday life.
AutismBC is offering 8 lucky teens the opportunity to participate in the Lights Camera Autism workshop.

On-Camera Skills and Tips
Weather Reporting
When: Sat July 10 and Sun July 11th,2021
Time: 10am -4 pm
Where: 3688 Cessna Dr. in Richmond BC.
Day One, the teens practice interviewing each other. We learn the dos and don’ts of interviewing, watch some bloopers, create a weather report, and research/ prepare for our celebrity guest interviews.
Day Two …. Celebrity Guest Interviews
Previous guests have included: Shoe Designer, John Fluevog; Award-Winning Stunt Artist, Danny Virtue; Mark Miller, CEO of Great Pacific TV; Trevor Bird, Top Chef Canada Finalist; Constable Palmer, West Vancouver Police; Michelle Morgan, Actor.
The workshop runs for 2 consecutive days. Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11,2021 at 3688 Cessna Drive in Richmond BC.
All participants must be accompanied by a support worker for both full days. Participation for both days is mandatory.
Applicants need to complete a zoom intake interview with LCA Creator/Instructor Katie Bennison to get a spot in the workshop.

Lights, Camera Autism was created and is delivered by experienced Broadcaster and Education Assistant, Katie Bennison. Katie is joined by veteran Camera Operator, Brent Gilbert. Both of them have children on the autism spectrum and between them, they bring over 60 years of broadcasting experience to share with the teens.
