Lending Library

  • New Nation-Wide Library Project Coming this Fall.

We are sad to announce the closing of the AutismBC Lending Library but excited that our collection will be moving to a new nation-wide library project that our members can access later this year.

Our main concern with this decision was ensuring that our members would continue to have access to books and resources that cover the diverse needs and interests of individuals on the autism spectrum across their lifetime. We are delighted to say this will still be the case! Our former library will merge with a new nation-wide project in the fall. What does it mean for you? A more extensive collection of books and resources will be available to you and your loved ones in a new and enhanced way later this year.

It was a tough decision, and one that was felt by our staff and partners who have seen the library support many families and individuals. The AutismBC Lending Library lent books and resources to families across the province since the early 80s. It reopened at the Goodlife Fitness Family Autism Hub in Richmond in 2017 with additional donations from the Canucks Autism Network and the Pacific Autism Family Network.

Free access to information is at the core of AutismBC’s values. We believe that everyone should be able to make informed decisions on what is best for themselves and their nearest and dearest. More details on how you can access this new library will be available in the coming months. Please stay tuned for more information this fall.

*If you have books you would like to return by mail, we ask that you hold onto them for the time being. When we’re ready to begin processing returns, Allison will contact you with instructions on how to return your books. If you’d like to return your books in person, you can drop them off in the white plastic box marked “Returns” next to the library desk on the main floor of the Pacific Autism Family Centre.
